Yorke: "The music business is in a state of collapse"
Mike_Diver by Mike Diver July 10th, 2006

Radiohead's Thom Yorke, whose debut solo album The Eraser is out this week, has spoken to The Scotsman about the state of the industry he earns his living from.

Yorke has previously said that Radiohead will sign only single-album deals, and may release material online. He said of the band's decision:

"I'm not really into the idea of picking an enormous fight (with the industry, presumably) because I think the structure of the music business is in a state of collapse anyway. There's no point in us trying to help.

"It makes you sound really arrogant, like, 'Yeah, we're going to mess up the system'. The system's built us, so that would be a bit silly, wouldn't it? The truth is that the traditional medium is still there, and you need it.

"When we have something, then we'll find whatever seems the most appropriate way to put it out."

Which clears up something, we're sure. In related news, The Eraser enjoyed a spin chez Diver at the weekend; Radiohead-loving girlfriend, not noticeably impressed.
