The Doors: this is NOT the end
greed by Graham Reed September 4th, 2002
News is filtering out about the 60’s rock legends The Doors upcoming gigs and a secret show to boot…

Following up the VH1 storytellers performance, and now with Ian Asbury (The Cult) filling in for the long-deceased Jim Morrison, The band play in Los Angeles (September 6-8) and Toronto (September 28-29), but band only retain only Ray Manzarek (keyboards) and Robbie Kriegler from The Doors. Those two are rehearsing with Ian Asbury and stand-in drummer (for Jim Densmore, unable to play due to ill-health) Stewart Copeland (ex-The Police, before drifting into movie soundtracks) on drums, as well as the addition of a new member: Angelo Barbara, on bass, who’s playing all the bass lines Ray played originally on keyboards.

(reports from the rehearsal studio’s apparently have seen this new bass player even correcting the original two members when they cock up the arrangements of the Songs they wrote so many years ago…)

Songs to expect at the following shows, if songs played at rehearsal are anything to go by, include the following -
“Roadhouse Blues”
“Break On Through”
“When The Music’s Over,”
“Love Me Two Times.”
“Alabama Song,”
“Backdoor Man,”
“5 To 1,”
( in a new slower arrangement "That's going to seriously fuck them up the ass!" according to Ray Manzarek)
“Love Street.”
“Moonlight Drive,”
“Wild Child,”
“Summer’s Almost Gone”
“L.A. Woman”
and “Light My Fire” as the last song of their regular set.

Apparently there's three other songs ready for possible encores. (including “Spanish Caravan”). Though, if they don’t play “The End”, I’ll scream. And if that’s not enough, there’s rumours about the band working on new material with words by poet Jim Carroll…

As for this secret gig? Doors fans are advised that there just might be a secret gig at the House of Blues on Tuesday night, if the heavy hints being dropped by the band themselves are true. And it seems that, as Jim Morrison never ever sang “this is not the end, my friends, not the end…”
