Oneida: turn ten, party in NY
Mike_Diver by Mike Diver August 29th, 2007

Brooklyn indie oddballs Oneida turn ten this year, and are holding a birthday party to mark their anniversary.

With eight full-length LPs under their belts, along with too-numerous-to-list singles and split releases, the trio have been a regular fixture at the forefront of everything avant-rock to come from the US in the last decade. And they've managed this - plus hella touring - while maintaining Proper Day Jobs. Oneida, we salute you.

They say about they: "Oneida, greater than the Phoenix, achieves repeated rebirth without the necessity of death or all-consuming fire". High fives!

The band will host, and play at, a special birthday show at the PS1 Contemporary Art Centre in Long Island, NY, on September 1. Also on the bill: Ex-Models, Dirty Faces and Sightings, and super secret special guests. (Do we dare guess Liars? Let's check out their schedule... nothing listed on MySpace for September 1... but we're probably wrong.) On decks: Michael Troutman of Awesome Color, Knox Overstreet and Home's Brad Truax, among others.

In related - totally related - news... Oneida are making a compilation of tracks available via Emusic. The collection includes offerings from all their albums, plus tracks from various singles, et cetera. Neat! The compilation will be available to download - for free - throughout September.

Oneida's UK/Ireland dates are as follows:

October
5 Cork Pine Lodge
6 Dublin Whelan's
7 Galway Roisin Dubh

December
8 Minehead All Tomorrow's Parties
