Metallica: cardboard boxes out, thrash in
Mike_Diver by Mike Diver December 19th, 2006

Metallica's pint-sized sticksman Lars Ulrich has promised fans that their next album will see the veteran rockers return to their thrash roots.

Ulrich spoke to Australian station The Rock Radio, and said that playing songs from their 1986 album Master Of Puppets live has had them yearning to record new songs of a similar ilk.

"Having to deliver Master of Puppets for three months this summer definitely revitalized some of that stuff in us. I think that the shows we played over the summer, we were definitely leaner and in better shape than we've been in a long time."

Metallica's next album will be produced by Rick Rubin. They've currently got around 25 songs to choose from for the long-player. Ulrich also added that the drum sound will be improved, saying that he's "taken the drums out of the cardboard boxes" following the less-than-bombastic St Anger.
