Mean Fiddler to offer Reading/Leeds downloads
gdobson by Gareth Dobson August 26th, 2004
Corporo-giants Mean Fiddler have agreed with fellow wonga-magnet Universal Records a deal to offer MP3 downloads of live performances from this year’s Reading/Leeds weekend.

The agreement, which is subject to artist approval, is the first of its kind in the UK. Ambiguously, Mean Fiddler stated that they would charge between 99p and 150p per song ‘depending on track and payment method’.

The agreement reaches beyond the bank holiday festival and into any Mean Fiddler venue or festival. Artists on Universal and its subsidiary labels include Black Eyed Peas, Amy Winehouse, Ryan Adams, Nelly, Bon Jovi, Busted, Counting Crows, Eminem, Feeder, Guns ‘N Roses, Jimmy Eat World, Keane, PJ Harvey, Rapture, Rufus Wainwright, Supergrass, Snow Patrol, The Cure, Thrice, Thursday, U2 and Queens of the Stone Age. In case you’re wondering…

Vince Power, Chairman of Mean Fiddler, commented,

"This is a unique deal in the UK which will offer music fans the opportunity to purchase tracks of their favourite artists performing live. The demand for digitally downloadable music is continuing to grow and we are at the forefront of catering for this demand. With our millions of customers, unique live music content and ability to work with companies like Universal on groundbreaking deals, I am extremely confident in the success of this division and its future contribution to the Group."

We reckon you’re better off taping it from Radio 1.
