Mammoth Mohair tour approaches
Mammoth Mohair tour approaches
holliy by holliy March 4th, 2004
This spring, Mohair will mainly be touring, touring and then touring some more.

Since they've put the effort in to book all those dates for the pleasure of toilet venue frequenters around the country, it seemed only fair to give Mohair a chance to sell themselve to you in their own words. So here, for your reading pleasure, is a short Q&A session with guitarist/vocalist Tom.

Mohair - who's in it, and what does it sound like?
Me, Tim, Pete and Alex... we sound like the bastard son of every record we've ever listened to.

What came first - the band name, or the band members' extravagant hair? Or is there no connection whatsoever between the two?
There was never meant to be a connection. The band came first, then the hair kinda did its own thing... and then came the name... but not because of the hair.

Give us a quick summary of Band Achievements to date?
Believe it or not I got BAGA 1, 2, 3 and 4 and Alex got his 20m swimming just last week. There are no certificates to say that you've spent the last few years slugging your guts out trekking up and down the country in the back of a transit van playing every toilet there is... there should be. We did get to release a single early last year and there is a piece of paper saying that we successfully reached 177 in the charts (it may be in my own handwriting though).

How different was playing America to playing in the UK?
Totally. You are treated like a star even if you aren't. We only played in Los Angeles so I guess we got the glitziest side of it all. Sound engineers, promoters, bar staff... I dunno... they just treat you like you're not just there to sell their beer or get in their way... what a joy. The audiences seem a little more open to a good 'wig out' from time to time - something we british find hard unless we are told that it's ok by magazines or tv.

What can we expect from the live Mohair experience?
Decent songs being played well and the odd convulsion or scissor kick thrown in for good measure. Good songs are paramount, the rest is a bonus.

How can people get hold of Mohair's music, and why should they bother?
Go to any decent bargain bin or charity shop... no... there is a single coming out on the 19th April called Brown Eyes Blue and you will simply feel better about yourself if you go and buy it!

What's do you plan for the next step on your path to world domination?
World domination sounds like a bit too much effort. We're like every band, we just want people to get the chance to get into what we do and for them to get as much out of it as we do... call that domination if you will. The next step to this is to get the records out and tour our arses off till everybody is sick of us then retire and do voice-overs on strange children's programmes... worked for Ringo.

Well, that's the band - now, to those tour dates:
