hard cider

nice_squirrel [Edit] [Delete] 23:02, 1 June '06

my housemate and I were just looking on the internet about how to make home brew cider (we doubted that they managed to make cider overnight on Big Brother - we were right), and on one of the sites, I saw a definition of 'hard cider'. Now, I've seen this mentioned in American things before, and always just assumed it was white cider. But no!

Q) What is hard cider?
A) Its distilled cider. Drinks such as apple jack are more popular in the USA. I have not seen this on sale in the UK but know its got a strong following else where and is sometimes made by back woodsmen with a home made pot still.
The steps to make this are
1) Make Cider
2) Distill the cider to make a stronger brew. (40% Alcohol)

40% cider?! Can you buy this in Britain? And WHERE?
