Giving inanimate objects a gender/organism

prole-art-threat [Edit] [Delete] 12:42, 22 May '06

It might be a south west thing but why do people say things like when referring to, say a car or a random inanimate object like a fridge "oh I thought I'd left 'him' there" or "We'll have to change 'him' for a new model"

Also when people are showing you where 'things' are meant to be kept - i.e on your first day in a new job why do they refer to things as being alive as in "And if you need to find any post it notes or paper clips or bottles of end-it-now-please cyanide capsules, well they 'live' in here"

We need to start again really don't we?
