On the Today show this morning they were talking about how the new position of Speaker of the House of Lords has a salary of £160,000-odd plus another £35,000-odd expenses, a year.

And what does this job entail?

Sitting in a certain place for three hours a day. The job doesn't involve the same hard work as the Speaker of the House of Commons either. As I understood it, it's simply sitting there.

Moreover it would appear to be an existing Lord who gets this position.

You know it's fucked up when you think "That sounds more reasonable" as another Lord suggests the salary should be 'only' £29,000.
