Fear and Loathing in the Cinema

iShotTheDeputy [Edit] [Delete] 20:10, 31 March '06

Following on from our discussion of Alien's merits as a horror/suspense movie it got me wondering about scary films that actually scare you as an adult?

I mean, most of the 'classic' horror films seem to have been labelled that by

(a) People who saw them before the age of 10
(b) Stupid people (mostly girls, it has to be said) who get scared by Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom at the age of 18+

I guess my point is, what movies have you seen while adult and fully aware of everything that have still had the ability to make you creep out, jump in shock or feel fairly sick.

My two are actually totally lame:

Event Horizon: I've never seen Hellraiser, which this apparently rips off like a cunt and I saw it alone in a cinema (okay others there, but me on my own) and it SHIT ME UP. Everyone else seems to laugh at it.

Dead End: Yes it's utterly predictable but somehow, Ray "Laura Palmer's Dad" Wise helps to make the atmosphere of this one really really uncomfortable to the point where we were just on edge all the way through...
