Beats question

JezCC [Edit] [Delete] 13:12, 20 January '06

I've recently made great advances in my making of beats (introduction of the new york method and stereo effects) But now I'm getting trouble with my snares.

they always seem to sound either a bit muddy or far too short and clean.

The set up is:-

Sampler (2 snare samples simultaneous, a really clean synthy one and a dirtier acoustic one)>
High pass filter(very low cut off)>
Overdrive (not very drivey)>
Split to compressor and clean signal
And then i mix th compressed snare at about 85% vol and the clean signal at about 60%.

What can I do to make it all sound a bit nicer, more punchy. Do I need to add some reverb? if so, where?
