Pom Poko

bigmanwithagun [Edit] [Delete] 13:29, 16 January '06

Miyazaki's 1994 film Pom Poko was on Filmfour last night as part of their Studio Ghibli season. Did anyone see it?
For those of you that havent, its a story about a group of raccoons who try to defend their land from increasing urbanisation. Its very funny and, like most Miyazaki films, very trippy in places. The parade scene is one of the most amazing displays of Miyazaki's talents that I have ever seen. The film also raises a lot of interesting issues about resisting inevitable consequences. On the down side, it suffers from being overly long and has a problem with pacing. As much as I love Miyazaki's leisurely pace, I do feel its a recurring problem with some of his films.
