So, I complained to the BBC...

crablin [Edit] [Delete] 16:48, 23 November '05

So, I complained to the BBC and got a reply. Check it out.

My complaint:

{Date:} 31/10/2005
{CommentType:} Complaint

{Title:}
{FirstName:} Colin
{LastName:} Roberts

{Email:} crablin@gmail.com
{PhoneNo:}
{Postcode:}
{PostRegion:}
{Country:} England

{About:} TV

{Channel:} BBC One
{ProgrammeName:} Lunchtime Weather Forecast
{TransmissionDate:} 31/10/05

{Comments:}
Dear Sir/Madam,
I was just watching the BBC Lunchtime weather, following a story
regarding a new children's hospital in London. The anchorwoman then
introduced the weather 'as designed by Rob McElwee,' to which he
elaborated on by stating that he wished he 'was the big architect,'
implying that he wished he was god, or a god of some form.
As a christian, I find this to be both highly offensive and blasphemous
and would suggest that Mr. McElwee make an apology to those who watched
this broadcast.

Yours,
Colin Roberts

Dear Mr Roberts

Thank you for your e-mail of 31 October regarding the 'One O'Clock News' on
BBC ONE. I would like to apologise for the delay in replying. We know our
correspondents appreciate a quick response, and it is a matter of regret to
us that you have had to wait for so long on this occasion.

I was sorry to read that you were offended by some of the banter between
the newsreader and our weather forecaster Rob McElwee during the edition of
our lunchtime news bulletin broadcast on the date of your e-mail. I note
you found her reference to the weather as having been 'designed' by Rob,
and his follow-up remark that he wished he was indeed 'the big architect'
blasphemous.

I can assure you that these impromptu comments were light-hearted and said
with tongue firmly in cheek, and we feel the vast majority of our viewers
will have taken them in the spirit in which they were intended.

Nevertheless, I recognise that you take a different view. Accordingly, I
would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any offence
inadvertently incurred, and to assure you that your comments, concerns and
misgivings have been recorded for the attention of senior management and
the relevant BBC News editorial and presentation personnel.

Thank you for taking the trouble to express your views.

Regards

Neil McFarlane
