Detuning Five Steps?

iShotTheDeputy [Edit] [Delete] 09:33, 18 October '05
It's a lot of detuning to do. I was messing around last night retuning my guitar but I was thinking this morning that I'd like to detune some of the strings by five steps.

What's peoples' experience of this? Does the intonation totally feck up? Are 9s just too darn weedy to bother doing it with and if I'm only doing some strings, is it work hybridising with a set of 10s or 11s to get a good even tension?

Is it obvious I've been listening to too much Sonic Youth recently? :-/
