I was watching that thing about the brain on BBC4 last night.
Seems like all our decisions are secretly made by our subconscious (defined by a mixture of our genetics, environment and memory networks at that time) and our consciousness is just an overdeveloped emergency control system that can trick us into thinking we have autonomy.
Turns out there are even cases of unconscious "sleepwalker" killers and the like, and we can influence people's decisions by just giving them small electrical impulses in the right spot of their brains.

What's the bloody point then?
