School children asked to choose from a list of 23 terms to describe their gender

...don't know what I feel about this one. My initial reaction was horror/incredulity/reach for the daily mail but I know trans people and teach trans students and I've taken the time to hear what they're going through - now I'm careful to call them by their name and their preferred gender and want them to feel included as part of society and not as just a token effort. It would be all too easy to laugh at the terms on the list when for some peoples these terms define huge identity struggles.

Then I start thinking about what on earth "tri-gender" and "demi-boy" might even mean and think that this political correctness gone mad and really don't like the idea of this being shoved down kids' throats. Worse it might just trigger a hostile reaction and make life worse for trans students in that school.

Conclusion is...dunno especially as I'm not trans and just wouldn't know.

What's the DiS thoughts on this one?
