The Americans, Chinese, Russians, and every other nuclear power have their atomic arsenal locked on them and can completely obliterate the alien fleet at will. If this happens there will be no trace of them left and we'll never know where they came from, what they looked like, what kind of civilization they came from, what they wanted, nothing.

They have managed to send a one way message to us requesting permission to land in the Australian outback. There is no discernable hint in the message as to their intentions either way once they land. They might be on an exploration mission to find other life forms, they might be in desperate need of help, they might intend to wipe out the human race or use our bodies as fuel for the journey home. We have no idea and will only find out if allow them in.
