Phone prick thread

TheWza [Edit] [Delete] 14:20, 14 October '15

Thanks for coming everybody, please be seated.

Item 1 - Apologies

Lucien said he's held up at the office and will try and be here for the second half.

Item 2 - Minutes of the last meeting

Any corrections? Otherwise I'll more that Epimer has proposed them and Planik has seconded them as an accurate record.

Item 3 - My phone

I've had my Galaxy SII for four years. It's been a trusty companion, and the battery replacement has given it a second lease of life but it's increasingly incapable of doing the things I want it to do. i.e. not freeze or crash every couple of hours or need recharging every half day. Time to move on.

I've hovered over the buy button for the following three, but then held off:

- Moto G 3rd gen (solid, cheap and decent option, but not sure the spec is /quite/ as good as I'm hankering after)

- Wileyfox Swift (The Register review jizzes itself over it, slimmer and cheaper than the essentially identically specced Moto G, but same spec scepticism applies)

- Galaxy S6 (big hitter, but hella pricey, and a screen a smidge bigger than I'm wanting, no SD slot)

Have looked into a few no/new-name jobbers, but they've not quite hit the spot.

Which leaves me flipping between these two:

- Z3 Compact for £330
- Z5 Compact for £450

Z5 is 32GB, Z3 is 16GB (which my GSII has, ffs, albeit partitioned shitely), but apparently Z3 > Z5 for battery life. Z5 will get OS upgrades for a wee while longer, presumably.

So... Z3/Z5/other?

Item 4 - AOB?

(I know there are a few recent-ish phone dick threads, but couldn't find one that seems to be rolling.)

Thank you for your time, ladies and gentlemen. Refreshments will now be served at the back of the hall.
