When to get to airport for a domestic flight / also question for DiSers who know Edinburgh

DaisyFlower [Edit] [Delete] 11:54, 8 September '15

Looking for some travel advice: on Saturday, I'm going to a wedding in Edinburgh. The reception is at the Hotel du Vin on Bristo Place. I have a flight to catch from Edinburgh airport to Heathrow at 20:45. I really can't risk missing it as I have another flight to catch from Heathrow a few hours later.

What's the latest I can safely arrive at the airport - and so what's the latest I can leave the reception? I want to stay as long as possible as it's the wedding of two really good friends, but I have to balance that with not missing the flight. I've never got an internal flight before - I'm used to turning up 2+ hours early for int'l flights but I assume I don't need to do that here.

According to google maps the venue and airport are 27 minutes apart by car. People who know Edinburgh - is it really that quick? Is traffic often a problem? Would I be better getting the tram? Would getting a taxi from Bristo Place at 18:45 be cutting it too fine?
