1827–1856 Sir Henry Ellis - Deserving of the title 'Sir' - A man's man and a librarian's librarian
1772–1776 Matthew Maty - Rested on the laurels of Gowen and thought he was
1799–1827 Joseph Planta - Famous for losing half of the library to Italy in a drinking contest, but won it back fighting them
1856–1866 Anthony Panizzi - Probably did some good, but interspersed with
1873–1888 Sir Edward Augustus Bond, KCB - Wanker
1776–1799 Charles Morton - Took the piss completely, used to draw cocks in the books
1866–1873 John Winter Jones - An utter, irredeemable cunt
