trying to avoid paying a cancellation charge-centric

right
so me and my wife went on a trip - it was lovely, thanks for asking.
She accidentally booked up a place for us to stay, not meaning to. god bless her.
So, they rang her on the night and said 'you gotta pay us!' :'(
Quick thinking me rung up my credit card company and said i'd lost my card.
But they charged me anyways - 200 clams!
So, can i get out of this by:
a) ringing up my credit card company and saying the payment was processed after i lost my card (keep in mind they just did it using the card number, not the physical card)
b) contacting the hotel and saying 'come on guy, we never received a confirmation from you (true) and nowhere was it / is it written on your website we would be charged the full amount if we didn't show (true)'

or do i have to just suck up this chubby?
