Being slightly older than most people at uni

in_wainbows [Edit] [Delete] 15:56, 30 October '14

Has anyone experienced this and did you think it was a big deal? I'm not talking about being someone who did a gap year, I'm talking about being 2 or 3 years older than everyone in your year. It sounds ridiculous but I do feel a tiny bit 'old' compared to everyone. I know 2 or 3 years makes little difference when you're an adult, but I'm studying with people who were too young to watch Lord of the Rings when it came out, for example. It just doesn't feel 100% right somehow. I also feel like the last of a generation that didn't grow up under the wave of Justin Bieber/One Direction. When I look at the music section on some of my uni peers' Facebooks, shit like that usually appears. This is not something I'm used to. When I was at school, liking stuff like that was deemed unacceptable.

Is/has anyone else (been) in a similar boat? I feel like the only person who's older than 21 and not even in my 3rd year yet (I'm 22). I'm a bit self-conscious about it.
