Gender inequality in sport prize money

AphexTwinkletoes [Edit] [Delete] 13:44, 28 October '14

Nice comparison table from the beeb here:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-29665693

What does the DiS hive mind think?
Majority of sports are equal.
Biggest disparities are in sports with big TV revenues for the fellas (football and golf). Would women's football/golf be sustainable if they had to pay out the same levels of prize money as they do to men? Should the men be paid less? Does the disparity in TV revenues justify the difference in prize money or do the governing bodies for those sports owe it to the public to redress this imbalance?
Should women in tennis play 5 set matches to justify the equivalent prize money in the grand slams?
What about your favourite sports? I watch women's climbing comps just as much as I watch men's, but I never watch women's football. Why not? I honestly don't know.
