Hard drive/audio woes (laptop-centric)

Starstripe [Edit] [Delete] 21:05, 16 September '14

Went and got my laptop fixed today, as the fan had been getting progressively louder, and it had started shutting down after 10/15 minutes of using Netflix, iPlayer etc.

The guy cleaned the fan and also installed a new hard drive, as he said there were major errors, which may have also been causing my laptop to overheat. Got it home, everything seems to be working smoothly, until I realise the sound isn't working. Weirdly, it works with the headphones plugged in, but not without.

Googled it and tried a few of the suggestions made, such as restarting the machine, updating the audio drivers and uninstalling/reinstalling said drivers. None of which have worked.

Anyone else had this trouble and, if so, how did you fix it? Hoping this isn't a con to try and get me to go backand give the guy more money.
