Nothing much was happening in the Group D games yesterday, and mindful of this Luis Suarez decided he'd give everyone something to talk about. Uruguay scored soon after and dumped Italy out but nobody has really noticed now. Whether he gets banned or not Uruguay move on to a game against Colombia (who brushed Japan aside eventually) in an all-South America quarter of the draw. England play out a tame draw with Costa Rica, and identify a promising partnership for the future with Lampard and Gerrard.

So it was left to (of all game) Ivory Coast v Greece to provide some more regular drama. Many people were left gnashing their teeth as Greece made it through with a last minute penalty, but in fairness Greece were apparently the better team and frankly any side that loses to Greece has only themselves to blame. Ivory Coast crash out in the group stage for the third World Cup in a row and don't even have a group of death to blame this time. Greece will play Costa Rica next - the neutrals will side with the latter, so expect a Greece win on penalties after a 0-0 draw.
