Estonia to launch 'e-resident' ID cards - meaning anyone can apply to become an Estonian citizen without ever going there.

Amongst other things, it will mean you can "use Estonian online services, open bank accounts, and start companies without ever having to physically visit Estonia."

If this comes into effect, and if all other countries in the world followed (who knows if it would happen), it would be crazy - I guess it would take globalisation to its natural end point, and fundamentally shift everything we think about nation states.

I assume it would also make things like tax avoidance much easier than it is at present, and force countries to be much more (economically) competitive as a result?
