I saw Pete Doherty tonight

Pegfeet [Edit] [Delete] 00:38, 7 May '14

I was getting the train back from my comedy night in Coventry tonight (Joe Lycett headlined. Numbers were down on usual, but we still had a great night. I made a great joke that referenced a DiSer I used to know in real life and everyone laughed. Thanks!). Just as I was about to board the train, I was alarmed to see a grown man leap from the opening doors and land two feet behind me. It was Pete Doherty. It was the kind of leap someone makes when they're desperate to be noticed. He appeared to be alone. He stumbled slightly on landing, shuffled his hat on his head and wandered up the stairs doing the Pete Doherty 'wide-eyed wonder' face. I used to idolise him when I was 14. There was a kind of cinematic poignance to the whole scene. This mess of a man, solitary and desolate, wandering off towards midnight in the shittest city in the country. I felt an overwhelming urge to acknowledge him, but I just watched him walk off, trying to make eye contact with anyone who might recognise him. Felt really sorry for him.
