So my terrible housemate is moving out...

monoshono [Edit] [Delete] 12:15, 15 April '14

supposedly on the 24th of this month. I don't trust this much, though. Can anyone give me a hand with the legal situations that might crop up if he refuses to leave? I've been reading the .gov.uk and Shelter website information but I am finding it quite hard to decipher. My understanding is that after the reasonable notice period (i.e. 1 month) and they have refused to leave, you have to go to court. The court then sets a period for them to quit, THEN after that, if they're still there you can give them notice that you are evicting them. Sounds like recipe for months of awkward scenes. What if the room is already rented to the next person, as is typical in these housing situations? Imagine turning up and your new room was still occupied!

Failing that, yet shitty housemates thread? I finally have some stories!
