Surely the most under-appreciated thing in the house. Always at ground level so nobody notices them. With greater fire safety legislation nowadays leading to more self-closing fire doors the humble doorstop is probably in use more than it ever was.

Improvised doorstops - had an engine block in my student house. In another house we used an old plastic beer crate.

One of those things that has reached the zenith of its design and in 10,000 years doorstops will look exactly the same, if we even have doors then.
