Rock clubs and Kerrang and stuff

Pegfeet [Edit] [Delete] 11:28, 18 March '14

Unfortunately I had to spend time in a Birmingham rock club recently. There is also someone in my office who plays Kerrang FM all day. It's impossibly shit. But what I find incredible is all that old shit that we were all laughing at in 2002... Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach, Nickleback... it's still getting played all the time and people seem to love it on a completely unironic level.

It actually looks, beyond all our expectations, some of the worst music ever produced has, at least in a certain demographic, stood the test of time.

Is it just because mainstream rock has basically vanished since (save a few wailing bellends)? Is it a kind of entrenched teenage nostalgia? I was most surprised to see that young people are really into this stuff. So it can't just be nostalgia. Maybe it does tap into aspects of the teenage psyche better than anything else before or since.
