New house wishlists (begging for stuff because you've bought a house)

the_bread_museum [Edit] [Delete] 15:03, 16 October '13

Someone on my Facebook just posted saying "So, lots of fam and friends have suggested I do a new house wishlist, so here it is..." accompanied with a link to an Amazon wishlist.

I'll be honest, I was angry before I clicked it, and it got worse from then on.

As a concept, I abhor this sort of shit. But some of the stuff on the list made me rage dangerously hard.

Lots of faux vintage tat, pointless and unecessary lifestyle nicknacks and also, fuck loads of really expensive shit that people who buy a house should really get for themselves. There were two vacuum cleaners on the list for example, one of which cost almost £300.

I think I understand the concept of gift lists. And this is like a wedding list, but the cost of purchase is not offset by the experience of going to a wedding and drinking (sometimes free) booze and having a good time and you know, wanting to give a gift as part of the celebration.

I also understand the concept of housewarming gifts. Pot plants, maybe some nice cups etc, purchased out of choice and given on first visit or at a housewarming party.

But it must take a whole lack of self awareness to combine the two concepts. Clearly Amazon are happy with the idea.

Fuck off, though.
