A rolling Doctor Who 50th Anniversary year thread

vamos [Edit] [Delete] 13:03, 11 October '13

So we're a month or so away from the 75 minute special which will also be shown in 3D and at cinemas:

I'm not sure if Capaldi is in this one or the Christmas special but should be good either way. A recent TV ad I saw for some collectible figurine set seemed to suggest who the bad guy is as well, which for us older Dr Who fans could be pretty exciting.

There'll also be a TV dramatisation of how the series first got made, a science special on what aspects of the show are realistic and lots of interesting one offs. Should be a nice treat.

And as if that wasn't enough, this month a bunch of classic episodes long thought destroyed turned up including the much sought after Web of Fear which introduced the Yeti and UNIT leader, Brigadier.

Nice piece about it here:

Basically, I'm really excited about all this and have also enjoyed the coverage in general across the media. These ex-assistants views on Dr Who and sexism throughout the years was great:

Also liked the verdict on the best Dalek storylines, though it missed out the original and it's obviously Genesis at No. 1, one of the best and most poignant bits of (sci-fi) TV ever.

This tale of how this guys' family life has centred around the programme for 3 generations now is also heart-warming:

The Guardian reviews of classic episodes has also been good:

So yeah, loads of exciting things going on and as a fan of old and new Who alike, basically this is like the Olympic year, except better.

TALK TO ME ABOUT DOCTOR WHO.
