[Warning: Thread contains politics] Was there as much hate back in the day reserved for the IRA as there is with "al-qaeda" today?

moker [Edit] [Delete] 14:03, 24 September '13

I remember not being able to go into town as my parents were worried about the IRA bombings in London (the tail end of it) and I remember little kids dying and that from their bombs. Or the horrendous pub bombings in Birmingham and alike. But I don't remember out and out hate. I also remember people "understanding" the cause.

Whereas Al-Qaeda seemingly have become seen the epitome of evil and horror.

If they both blow stuff up for political gain, what's the difference?

Am I imagining there was /is a difference of public opinion between these two groups? DISCUSS.
