medication side effects

alcxxk [Edit] [Delete] 14:57, 10 September '13

isn't it weird how loads of drugs list their side effects as basically being the things you're taking the drugs to fix?

eg
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pramipexole

* designed for parkinsons, used on restless leg syndrome sufferers

* side effects include "Twitching, twisting, or other unusual body movements" ie, the main symptom of parkinsons and "Hyperalgesia (body aches and pains)" ie the main symptom of RLS

and then there's stuff where the side effects are the opposites of eachother; this stuff can cause "Decreased appetite and subsequent weight loss" OR it can cause "compulsive gambling, punding, hypersexuality, and overeating, even in patients without any prior history of these behaviours"

also punding is a weird word, but apparently it's the same thing as stimming.

anyway: medicine's a bit weird. you'd think they'd have sorted it out by now etc
