as a teenager i had a job with our local council's planning department that required me to sit on my own in a room scanning contaminated land maps into a computer page by page, these were usually documents that were thousands of pages long at a time

found out shortly after i left that they just gave up and asked the companies who'd provided the maps for the digital files in the end thus rendering all of my work pointless
