Asking to stay with friends while visiting their city

WhiteLightWhiteCity [Edit] [Delete] 13:59, 30 August '13

Is this appropriate?

In this particular situation a friend has suggested visiting their city (and specifically mentioned staying with them at their house). I’ve finally got round to sorting out a time to visit, and have emailed to ask which date would suit them (we’re going to a couple of places). They’ve written back to say great and suggested one of the dates, but haven’t explicitly offered accommodation. I’m 75% sure that if I mentioned staying with them they’d say `of course!`, but there’s a nagging part of me that wonders whether it’s polite to ask if they haven’t specifically offered for this particular occasion. I don’t mind, perfectly happy to stay in a hotel, but conversely I might just be neurotically inventing a dilemma that doesn’t exist.
