Unpaid work experience

1_234589 [Edit] [Delete] 17:31, 28 August '13

0 replies, etc...but how do people feel about unpaid work experience?

Triggered by receiving an email from a well-respected organisation advertising for students to do unpaid advocacy work for them.

The 'job description' says they're required to: promote the organisation through digital means, plan events, write copy, do research, and distribute flyers. All work which normally would require them to employ someone, surely?

Although they only want a few hours a week, the implication that it's recurring work seems to differentiate it from traditional work experience opportunities (which is normally limited to only a few weeks to a month). Instead of payment they're offering a few tickets to events and the potential to make key industry contacts.

Surely this sort of thing should be paid at minimum wage, no?
