Psychology conversion courses/masters (help-me-centric)

streetflash [Edit] [Delete] 13:18, 28 June '13

hi dis.

i've just graduated with a largely meaningless liberal arts degree and after lots of uhmming and ahhing over what the hell i'm gonna do with myself i've kind of decided that going into something like social work/psychiatry/cognitive behavioural therapy could be a pretty good life. i've flirted with quite a few other ideas and this seems to be the one which has stuck the most.

however, information that i've found on the subject seems to be often contradictory so any help from people in the know on here would be a godsend.

my reasons for wanting to do it are kind of simplistic and perhaps naive, but basically i want to go into a career where i can feel satisfied that what i do has some benefit for someone else. theres a fair bit more to it but i don't need to write an essay on here about it, its only semi-relevant.

what i'd like to know about is:

1. for someone with no psychology undergrad what kinda time frame am i looking at in postgraduate study? what would be the basic structure of this?

2. personal experiences of anyone who has done a psychology undergrad (or conversion, or masters). pros? cons?

to pad this thread out a bit any advice, general discussion, or humourous anecdotes about therapy/psychiatry are welcome.

thanks in advance
