Humble Bundle 8 - games and music for charidee

hexagram [Edit] [Delete] 10:49, 31 May '13

Humble Bundles are a great idea: a compilation of ace indie games, where you pay what you want Radiohead-style and charities get a cut (Child's Play, this time).

https://www.humblebundle.com/

Tremendous value, all for a good cause. You get five games for a couple of quid or whatever:

- Awesomenauts - run and gun platformer, very slick with online play.
- Capsized - another, different run an gun platformer, like Turrican.
- Little Inferno - a fireplace sim. Drag stuff into the fireplace and burn it - really relaxing and great.
- Dear Esther - an art game based on the Source engine. You explore an island in the Outer Hebrides, uncovering what happened to your wife or something. Moody.
- Thomas Was Alone - haven't played it yet.

What's really smart is that if you give more than the current average ($6 or so), you get two bonus games!

- Proteus - haven't played it either! Only downloaded the pack two nights ago...

The other bonus game is Hotline Miami, a weird 80s-style Gauntlet/GTA1 type game where you wear a rabbit mask and beat the shit out of people. It's awesome. This game normally goes for $10 I think, or $5 in a sale, so chuck $10 to charity and pick this bad boy up. Still getting into the others, and they look good.

Tentative music link!

If you give more than the average, you also get the soundtrack MP3s to six of the games - i.e. free music, nice. The one that's missing is Hotline Miami, which is annoying as that game has by far the best music. It's got one of the best, most fitting soundtracks to anything outside of a big GTA game I've heard.

The Soundcloud link for it is here:

Check it out - it's immense. Electro, ambient stuff, house-y - lots of artists, but it's all very witch house overall. In a good way. Of course, they sell the OST separately, for like $10 (same if not more than the game!).

But here's the thing: if you buy the game, don't you already own the soundtrack? Why yes! Go into C:, Program Files -> Hotline Miami, and find the Music folder. In there are 23 Ogg Vorbis files, ready to roll.

Most music players/phones don't handle Ogg Vorbis files, though. So download Audacity, open the Music folder and Export as MP3. It'll re-encode the files as MP3s which work everywhere: tag that shiz, and you're golden.

Great games, good cause, free music. Get it, dudes
