Are there any Diser's that are handy with mixing cocktails?

What would you regard as a 'standard' selection of spirits / juices / etc?

If you had to supply a few different types of cocktails, as cheaply as possible - what would you buy yourself (from scratch)?

I'm thinking that the easy option would be to just do whisky or normal Mojitos, but that would be a bit boring. Is there anyway that you could get a selection of spirits, to be able to do a number of different cocktails - or am I just dreaming my life away?
