this is probably a bit Peter Kay, but i was thinking before about how people used to have weird names for their telly remotes back in the day, maybe still do now. i tried explaining this to someone and they got all uppity and defensive, dunno why, was just a bit of harmless observo-bants.

boringly, ours was generally just 'the remote', as i guess was the case for most people, but i remember 'the plonker' was pretty common as well (as in "pass us the plonker, love").

'doo-bre-do'(sp?) seems pretty common down south, but probably for any inanimate handleable object. hashtagsimpletons#.
