Films You/I Watched This Weekend

Antpocalypsenow [Edit] [Delete] 11:53, 20 May '13

Our Daily Bread - A kind of arthousey, silent documentary about the food production process. Some very striking imagery beautifully shot and incredibly confidently edited. Every scene which showed animals being treated in a horrifically inhumane way lingered for so long that the shock at what you were seeing turned into more of a weird numbness to what seemed like a surrealist painting or something. Seeing two women absent-mindedly throwing handfuls of adorable baby chicks into crates for their impending demise became almost comical. The vegetable and human segments struck me as little more than just being nice to look at but the film is well worth a watch. 7/10

The Queen of Versailles - I don't really know how I responded to this to be honest, I felt kind of desensitised to the sickening levels of excess on display very early on and completely unsympathetic to their demise as well. She was human enough in a kind of endearingly naive way, he was an absolute bastard, their kids seemed like obnoxious brats and overall nobody came out of it well at all. Pretty well put together but a bit pointless? 6/10
