We had an Austin Maxi in red:

and then, inexplicably, my dad replaced the red Maxi with a beige Maxi

Both were shit. I remember him fixing the exhaust once by soldering an old tin can round it.

It wasn't until I was about 13 that he bought a semi-respectable car: a Ford Granada
