Following the EDL thread, I saw the flag of St. George today...

wonton [Edit] [Delete] 14:52, 22 April '13

(It was a massive one draped right in the centre of Nottingham). It was weird because my immediate reaction to seeing it was one of mild distaste. I'm neither brazenly patriotic nor ashamed of being English but I do have some emotional connection to the country where I have lived all my life...but my view of the flag is entirely distorted by association with EDL-like groups and football fans abroad. By contrast, I associate the Union Jack with middle class street parties, last year's Olympics and (to a small extent) the monarchy. These links still aren't ideal but a much more palatable alternative. Anyone else the same?
