Doxing

hip_young_gunslinger [Edit] [Delete] 14:52, 11 April '13

Or revealing someone's personal details online.

Some guy on Reddit 'confessed' to a murder online, and 'redditors' and Gawker have named and shamed who they think the guy is.

Despite the fact there is no proof the murder ever happened and the guy may well be bullshitting. Is it fair for Redditor/Gawker to name him like this? He's obviously a bit of a pillock even if it's all made up, but this seems a bit uncalled for. I don't know if he'd have any sort of defamation case since arguably he was the one damaging his reputation, but still.

On DiS mentioning real names against someone's will is a no-no. So, 'doxxing'. What do you make of that then?
