son - thumb broken -playing goal 1st time in hockey, at school, no protective gloves/equipment - can he sue?

creakyknees [Edit] [Delete] 18:52, 20 March '13

He's not played in goal before, its compulsory games, the teacher put him in goal with not protective wear.

His thumb is broken and bone had come off. He now cannot write and he cannot play guitar (although he has paid-for lessons)

I have never claimed anything through the courts before, but Im fucking angry at the schools irresponsibility. and they need to be punished in my eyes.

Am I right? (I've not played Hockey) is it a requirement that goalies are given protective equipment? Mrs knees suggested that it is essential. And I seem to remember on the tv that the hockey goalies that I have seen have been well padded up.
