Are there any game series where a new release would make you buy a machine to play it?

vamos [Edit] [Delete] 13:45, 4 March '13

Was thinking about this as I've always said that the day The Last Guardian came out, I'd buy the shit out of a PS3. Looking likely it may be a PS4 or never happen now though.

I don't know how many other series I can say this about?

RE and MGS have had their day for me. GTA too unless it changed significantly.

There are a few Nintendo franchises I'd keep a watchful eye on. A genuine leap forward in a Mario game would convince me, likewise if Retro dropped something amazing within the Metroid universe again. Also, if this new RPG is anything like as good as Xenoblade then I'm all in:

Otherwise I'm not sure there is. Tomb Raider is the closest I've come yet to buckling and getting a new console. Maybe a great future gen WipEout would do the same? I'd be tempted to do whatever it takes to my Mac to run Half Life 3 too.

The most exciting looming games are actually both new IPs for once (Last of Us & Watch dogs).

You?

NOTE: For the purpose of this thread, FIFA / Pro Evo don't really count.
