Overnight coaches/coach travel in general

urbanfox [Edit] [Delete] 20:08, 23 February '13

Me and a mate are planning on going to Glasgow in a few weeks, to see another mate. Can find a train back for £29 no worries. However going is slightly more difficult, trains are about £50 and with the last one leaving at 7 (and us finishing works at 5) it could be a bit of a rush. A flight is £70.

There is a coach for the princely sum of £7.50 - Couldn't walk it for that, etc. It is an overnight coach, leaving Brum at 10.30 and getting to Glasgow for 6.30. So it could be quite nice to be transported as I sleep.

I've been told that the coaches are comfortable (nice seats, reclining, loads of room - more comfortable than a plane/train), but not sure if they are comfortable enough for spending 8 hours on and trying to get some sleep.

I have the idea in my head that this coach will have about 6 people on it, so loads of room to spread out and get comfortable. That's not going to happen is it? Especially as it starts its journey in Plymouth and is stopping at Hanley, Manchester Airport, Manchester, Preston and Lancaster along the way. Not sure I'd want to spend 8 hours on a crowded coach, with people snoring, etc. Or to fall asleep only to be woken by someone who wants to get off, or wake to find someone asleep next to me dribbling on my shoulder. Don't mind it being busy to start with as long as it empties out in Stoke and Manchester, which it probably will I reckon. Can have a beer or two for those first couple of hours I suppose*

Then again, being transported 300 miles while we (possibly) sleep for £7.50, there are probably no grounds for complaint if its the most uncomfortable night of our lives.

Any reviews of getting the coach? Anyone done an overnight coach?

*Are COACH BEERS a thing?
