Tenancy (fixed term contract) ends on March 19th. I let the landlord know yesterday we'd be leaving.

He pointed us to a small point in the contract that says '2.5.1 If the Tenant intends to vacate at the end of the fixed term, or at any later date, he agrees to give the Landlord at least two month’s prior Notice in writing.'

This doesn't scan against Common Law. We've signed an agreement to pay 6 months of rent, which we've done. That contract stipulation doesn't seem massively legit. Online searching is yielding little, and i'm on hold to CAB as we speak but does anyone know?
