"Eastern" Literature

harman_kardon [Edit] [Delete] 21:52, 15 January '13

Be it fiction, philosophy, history or any other genre of book you might consider to be of Eastern origin or influence. What would you consider to be essential, or at least a very good read?

I'm moving to South Korea for a year in a few weeks, and would quite like to take the opportunity to divulge into all things "Eastern", particularly philosophy and maybe a few classic fiction pieces.

So far I'm only set on getting some writings on Confucius.

(Note: I recognise the humongous breadth/oversimplification of the name 'Eastern' as a genre - it's more as a guideline as I'm quite open to suggestions and don't want to be Korean specific).

Do feel free to talk about books generally.
